The recent US economic troubles have hit us all hard. Much of the impact is yet to come, but many businesses are already taking action in light of the economic fear sweeping the nation.
For example, I spoke with a Charlottesville Travel Agent this morning whom, after only one day, is seriously concerned with consumers willingness to travel over the next 6-9 months. Implications include cutting advertising and delaying investments in their website and online presence.
I’m sure this story will repeat itself many time over across all industries, but my advice is that now, more than ever, is the time to clarify your company’s mission and make the tough decisions and smart investments that will pay off over the long run.
Consider this, in a local industry of say, five travel agencies, four out of five will delay or vote against marketing investment. The one travel agent that makes these investments, targets their niche with the highest ROI, and caters to those that are still willing and able to travel, will come out ahead. While others hide in fear, someone will ultimately come out on top.
So why isn’t you? Why shouldn’t your business that rises to the occasion? People will still travel. People still need help from a travel agency.
I agree, it’s scary times on the surface and the media doesn’t help, but let’s all take a moment to reflect on the benefits and opportunities in front of us.
